What is Risk Management?

Risk management is the process of minimizing or mitigating the adverse risks and taking advantage of positive opportunities. It starts with the identification and evaluation of risk, followed by optimal use of resources to monitor, and minimize the risk.

In 2019, at least 5,554 casualties of mines/ERW were recorded: 2,170 people were killed, 3,357 people were injured, and for 27 casualties the survival status was unknown.

These incidents are widespread and increasingly common: More than 623 incidents in at least 106 countries and territories have been recorded between 1979 and December 2019.

Explosive Ordnance

As at 1 October 2020, 57 States and three other areas were contaminated by anti-personnel mines globally.3

At least 123,375 anti-personnel landmines were cleared and destroyed in 2019.
